Southwark Location Reports

As I may have mentioned once or twice I am the Photo Locations Editor for Ephotozine. The idea of the Locations Section is for people to share their favourite photographic location with other photographers, whether it is ideal for Landscapes, Architecture, Wildlife or anything else.

I have just uploaded a couple of reports from Southwark on the edge of The Thames in Central London. The first report covers Soutwark Cathedral and the second Borough Market.

Widemouth Bay Location Report

As I may have mentioned I am the Photo Locations Editor for Ephotozine. The idea of the Locations Section is for people to share their favourite photographic location with other photographers, whether it is ideal for Landscapes, Architecture, Wildlife or anything else.

I am just working through some shots from last year and have used these to create a report for Widemouth Bay in Cornwall, which is a fantastic summer location for surfing and sunset shots. Last year I visited it three evenings running as I really loved the place on a warm summers evening.

Competition

I am rather chuffed to have won the Ephotozine Christmas Card Competition and with it free membership to Ephotozine's paid membership option "E2". The only thing is I already get E2 membership due to being a moderator & section editor. So I have decided to give it away to the needy.

To win this fabulous prize simply create an image on the (new years) theme of LOOKING FORWARD. Then upload it as a modification to this picture.

Judging will take place on the 1st of January (2nd if the hangover is really bad).

Good luck everyone.

Leigh-on-Sea

As I may have mentioned I am the Photo Locations Editor for Ephotozine. The idea of the Locations Section is for people to share their favourite photographic location with other photographers, whether it is ideal for Landscapes, Architecture, Wildlife or anything else.

I have just posted up a report for Leigh-on-Sea which is a part of the Essex coast that is very near to me and consequently somewhere I visit as often as I can.

Forest Frolics

Well yesterday was the day of the 4th Annual Ephotozine Epping Forest trip. Considering that the trip is always held on the first day of British Winter Time, over the years we have been very fortunate with the weather. This year our luck wasn't so good as it was a decidedly damp day though the heavy rain held off for a while.

I was hopping that as the trees had started to turn that people would be able to get some shots of the foliage like this:

But the wind made that a bit tricky.

A popular subject on the meet is the various forms of fungus that can be found in the forest. This year the fungus was thin on the ground and took some finding but most people got some shots. Though Nick Brandon had a rather interesting experience:

Things started off well, found a few decent fungi to photograph early on, great.

Had a little wander, further afield and found some more, got too engrossed and lost everyone.

After 3 1/2 hours I went towards a branch upon which I could see some porcelain fungus growing......

Next thing I know, I'm waist deep in foul smelling mud and sinking deeper every time I move.
Managed to claw my way out minus two wellies, heart was going like a steam train by this time.
I found a log that I could carry and put it where I thought my wellies were and after 20 minutes had managed to dig my wellies out !!!!!

After this mishap I looked back to where I had walked, no sign of a bog, just a carpet of golden leaves.

Moral of this story, BE VERY CAREFUL IN THE WOODS.......

Sorry Nick!

The meet ended with a few jars in a local ale house which gave us all a chance to warm up and chat. I don't normally take many shots on the meet as I enjoy myself chatting to the other photographers too much. I did manage to get this picture of some puffballs. For those of you who are interested in the technical details : 300mm f/4 & 1.4 extender - 30Seconds @ f/45..with 10 bursts of flash.

All in all an enjoyable day, despite the weather.

Fun in the Forest

If you are in the London area and have Sunday free then why not join us for The Ephotozine Epping Forest meet. I have been running the meet for the last four years and it's always been good fun. Groups of photographers spend the day spread out through the forest getting up lose and personal with some fungus and ferns.

As part of the preparation on Saturday morning I tried out an alternative location in the forest with Clive Burrow. I knew it would be a good morning as a shoot with Clive is always a pleasure.

Here is Clive's shot of me taking the above picture (blooming paparazzi you can't get away from them!).

Not Down in the Dales

I've just got back from a pleasant week in the Yorkshire Dales. The Dales have been a favourite place of mine since I first crawled in its caves as a teenager.

I find the limestone landscape endlessly fascinating with rivers appearing and disappearing from cracks in the rocks, naturally terraced mountains, deep potholes and waterfalls round every corner. Man's influence seems only to have improved the beauty of the place with the dry stone walls and regularly placed field barns imposing a pleasing geometry on nature.

Whilst in Reeth I had the pleasure to visit The Scenic View Gallery

Gunnerside Bottom
by The Scenicview Gallery

It was a real joy to see a gallery with great landscape photography thriving in that very same landscape The gallery features a variety of landscape, animal and abstract shots all of which reflect the many moods of the dales.

Well worth a visit if you are up that way or just visit the website.

Elterwater Location Report

As I may have mentioned I am the Photo Locations Editor for Ephotozine. The idea of the Locations Section is for people to share their favourite photographic location with other photographers, whether it is ideal for Landscapes, Architecture, Wildlife or anything else.

I have just posted up a report for Elterwater which is one of the most beautiful parts of the Lake District. I was lucky enough to be in position overlooking the village as the dawn came up on a fine, cold winters day. The warm morning light made the foliage positively glow, a magical moment indeed.

As I may have mentioned I am the Photo Locations Editor for Ephotozine. The idea of the Locations Section is for people to share their favourite photographic location with other photographers, whether it is ideal for Landscapes, Architecture, Wildlife or anything else.

I have just posted up a report for Southwold, as I was recently up in Suffolk enjoying this beautiful part of the world. For your enjoyment here is a shot taken from the bowls of Southwold Pier:
